Hi, I’m RL Crawley, and I'm a freelance book illustrator. I hope you've enjoyed visiting my website.  I was professionally introduced to literature and art as a youngster growing up in the heart of the South.  I grew up to become an English Language Arts teacher and librarian. However, my own private artistic practices and projects were ongoing.  After several years of producing literate youngsters and of sharing my love of the written word and of the art that illustrates it, I decided to expand my horizons and pursue my dream career, a professional book artist/illustrator.  Drawing and painting have always been serious personal passions, but over time telling stories with pictures has evolved into a professional career choice. I especially enjoy illustrating humorous scenes, sci-fi and fantasy, and kids having fun. I specialize in illustrating characters that are underrepresented, especially from historically marginalized ethnic groups. Moreover, I welcome self-publishi authors and general commissions.
